May I hope your Lordship will excuse the application I now make, on behalf of my Son George Strachan Architect in Hong Kong, who has received from the Colonial Government, the appointment of Civil Engineer to the Land Office at Hong Kong; and which I do in the hope that your Lordship may be pleased to confirm the appointment so made.
I venture to enclose a copy of my testimonials, and to add that he has now been in Hong Kong for a period of five years. He is in his 28th year and has given great satisfaction in his profession; having been extensively employed in furnishing of Plans and Specifications for Godown and Bungalows, and in superintending the erection of the edifices. Amongst his employers are the firm of Jardine Matheson and Co., Douglas Lapraik and Co.; Ripley and Co. etc. He also furnished the plans for the Hong Kong Club House which I believe does great credit to the town of Victoria and he was also Architect and superintended the erection of a number of houses built up in Canton.
May I be permitted to offer some reason hoping for your Lordship's favorable consideration to refer to the enclosed memorial which was submitted to the Lords of Her Majesty's Treasury on the subject of the heavy and ...
